Bring Safe Surgery Closer to Home
Sumbwe Community Hospital is developing a surgical theatre to bring essential surgical care closer to communities in Wakiso District.
We have secured important equipment and are working to complete the remaining requirements so the theatre can open safely and serve patients when they need it most.
An anaesthesia machine secured for Sumbwe Community Hospital’s future surgical theatre. Installation and further equipment are still required before surgical services can begin.
What We Still Need to Open Safely
Safe surgical care depends on more than one machine. Before the theatre can open, we must complete the facility, install and test equipment, secure essential supplies, and ensure the right staffing and safety systems are in place.
Progress So far
We have already secured an anaesthesia machine and an operating light for the future surgical theatre. Post-operative care arrangements are also in place.
These are important foundations. The next step is completing the equipment and theatre systems needed to open safely for emergency Caesarean sections and essential general surgery.
- A surgical operating bed/table
- Patient monitoring equipment, including pulse oximetry
- Oxygen supply and backup, suction, airway and resuscitation equipment
- Caesarean-section and general-surgery instrument sets, sterile consumables and infection-prevention supplies
- A safe theatre ventilation and air-conditioning system
- Installation, testing and final safety checks before opening
Why This Matters
When a mother needs an emergency Caesarean section or a patient needs essential surgery, distance and delay can make an already difficult situation even harder.
Our aim is to complete a safe, functioning theatre that brings this care closer to home for families in Wakiso District and surrounding communities.
